17th National Learning Disabilities Conference

In support of our conference coordination and registrar services LS designed the website and on-line registration forms for the 17th National Learning Disabilities Conference. We are also offering post-conference tours via our Incentive Travel division. The website was to visually represent the conference goal: to provide information that will assist parents and professionals to better support individuals (of all ages) who have learning disabilities. As well, the site was to represent our territory and provide comprehensive information. The result is a beautiful site which visually communicates the goals/objectives of the conference without sacrificing content and navigation.

2008 Yukon Teachers Conference Website

This website was practical in its focus.  As it was for a large conference with over 100 breakout sessions and several exhibitors it had to be thorough in the information it provided.  Further, the information had to be easily found and linked to through the site.   We received many compliments on the website which attests to its effectiveness.

Recycling Club

The Recycling Club promotes recycling to youth – participants collect points by which they can redeem prizes offered by local vendors. This booklet is the prize catalogue that kids refer to. LS has designed the catalogue following previous for several years.

Yukon Fish & Wildlife 2020 Vision Symposium Website

Fish and Wildlife Management Board SymposiumThe website showcases photos of Yukon wildlife in a way which clearly communicates the message and ultimately maximizes registration for the symposium.  Leaf Solutions was hired to coordinate this event including design of the website, poster, print ads, rolling ad and radio spot production as well as all on-site logistics.  The overall objective being to peak public interest, maximize attendance and feedback at the symposium.  Further, the website was to provide a means by which Yukoners who could not participate in the symposium can comment.  As such a “Public Discussion Document” and on-line comments form is being developed and will be uploaded to the site mid-November.

All other print material incorporates design elements of the website as a means of reinforcing the message.  Print ads incorporate different questions throughout the campaign as a means of causing the reader to think and comment.  Radio spots feature personal “invites” by Yukon Fish & Wildlife Members to participate.  As well,  youth spots feature youth “thoughts” to peak the interest and promote involvement of youth in the comments process.

Take a step on your healing trail…Brochure/Poster

This brochure and poster were designed to inform First Nations individuals and families of support services available to them with regard to dispute resolutions, access to counseling etc.  for residential school victims.

The design incorporated graphic elements to depict Yukon “wolf” and “crow” clans within a healing circle – the footprints graphically accentuated the “take a step” message.   The poster was reproduced in full colour while the brochure was printed 2 colours.

YWITT Website

Yukon Women in Trades and TechnologyThe new YWITT website challenge was incorporate a eye-catching design which represented the organization within tight budget constraints.  Our approach was to incorporate images in the header that depict women in various trades within a “template design”.  The template although somewhat limiting in terms of placement of design elements, was the most cost effective approach.  Within these limitations we have come up with a clean design that professionally represents YWITT.  Included in this contract was training so that our client can update text and photo elements themselves thereby decreasing maintenance costs.

Community Resource Guide

This booklet is to provide practical information in a creative way to Rural Yukon students. As the students are primarily of First Nations descent, we incorporated graphics reflective of Yukon First Native traditional beading designs. As well we used the wolf and crow clan symbols and earth tone hues. The client wanted more of a "cartoon like" look. As such we used comic book sans font and clipart incorporated where appropriate.

Leaf Solutions Conference Yellow Page Ad

conference ad
LS Conference Yellow Page Ad is a simple, clean design that combines an eye catching, nature type image with a strong and well-developed graphic language. The font used is Futura, which is a practical, commercially viable typeface. Careful use of leading and kerning has helped to eliminate the appearance of the ad being busy, too cluttered or difficult to read. The color green is a symbolic and helps to emulate the feeling of nature, stability and a fresh, flexible approach.

Best Practices Booklet

Best Practices Booklet
The Best Practices Code for Mining Practices was produced for the Champagne Aishihk First Nation.  It features traditional images with modern lines. The images depict native people and their traditional practices, while the layout is more modern to portray the feeling of traditional practices in modern times. The font , Helvetica, with its solid, upright forms, tempered by surprising curves, help to depict a feeling of strength in native traditions. The colour burgundy (shade of dark red), carries a meaning of leadership, maturity and refinement, which acts as a direct representation of the native people and their best or traditional practices.

Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle Website

Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle
The Yukon Aboriginal Sports Council required a vibrant website which addressed some practical requirements.  Our client wanted the ability to upload new text and images to the site within their organization.  Our creative design approach was a simple navigation scheme and a white on red background against which pictures would stand out. We placed emphasis on visual imagery to help reflect the feelings of sport, youth and culture. We opted to use a colour scheme that was both brand and youth oriented but not overly representational. This design was then overlaid on a Content Management System (CMS) allowing the client secure in-house control over all aspects of their site from editing text to uploading photos to maintaining a calendar of events.

You can visit the site at http://www.yasc.ca/

Justice Facts Booklet

Justice BookletThe Justice Facts Booklet design combines northern images with creative lines.  The images are focused on the north and the justice system of the Yukon, while the layout, with its curved and broken lines, gives a bit of a creative flare to an otherwise traditional design. The font used is Optima, as its design follows humanist lines and is more of a typical or realist sans-serif which is often seen in the text of judicial systems. The light blue colour carries a meaning of peace, tranquility and understanding, which helps to illustrate the overall objectives of the Yukon Justice System, which is to not only keep communities safe, but to also rehabilitate troubled offenders.

Project 5:  First Nations Governance Modules

Cover

The booklets will be used in the Grade 5 school curriculum. This is the First set of First Nations learning booklets written for elementary and we are extremely pleased and proud to be a part of it. Our work included graphic design and obtaining photos and permissions for same. . The project was “piloted “in the fall of 2007, final changes have been completed. Printing will be complete and the booklets will be available for use in Yukon Schools in the fall of 2008.

Invitation-Minister’s Reception - Mineral Exploration Roundup

The mountains portray an earthy, organic Yukon Scene that relates to Mineral Exploration. The use of Script in the font helps to give the invite an elegant, classic feel. The colour gold traditionally symbolizes success and well being, as well as relaxation and enjoyment of life, which is fitting for the event and the tone of the design.

2007 Canada Winter Games

Leaf Solutions just completed the design of eight handbooks for the 2007 Winter Games. A generic design was developed for all handbooks to promote brand awareness and reduce costs. Different colours used on each book as means of identification .

For most books the inside pages incorporated similar looks by way of font usage and layout with the exception of the sports schedule and the communications directory which utilized a table/chart format throughout.

The volunteer handbook took on a slightly different shape and binding to allow volunteers to insert their book into a pocket, incorporate notes and store pertinent documents.

The Opening and closing ceremonies programs incorporated some of the design elements of the handbook covers while taking on a look of their own.

The National Artists Program design was distinctly different from the other books with a more "artistic" design focus.

All handbooks and programs were bilingual.

Yukon Anglers Guide to Stocked Lakes

Crystalmeth Awareness

The Crystal Meth poster and print ad campaign
was to promote upcoming public information sessions as a means of addressing substance abuse in the Yukon. In particular the dangers of Crystal Meth use. The design incorporated royalty free stock images, which proved to be very impacting.

Faces of Tourism Campaign

The Faces of tourism campaign
reflected market research conducted by Leaf Solutions in partnership with DataPath Systems. Research results indicated that although Yukoners were aware of and in general support the Tourism industry – they did NOT see how the tourism industry benefited their lives personally. As such, the campaign incorporated print ads and posters which included pictures and quotes from various Yukoners (initially in 3 separate communities – Dawson City, Watson Lake and Whitehorse). The campaign also incorporated “tourism facts”. The Campaign also incorporated a radio contest where a Yukoner could win price (of a Yukon tour experience) by correctly answering questions about the tourism industry. This campaign had a limited budget – as such various communities submitted photos, the client provided the bulk of the information/copy with LS editing as required. Black and white ads/posters were designed. Follow-up market research will measure the effectiveness of the campaign.

YuWin Job Fair

The first Yuwin Job Fair was coordinated by LS. In support of that LS designed print ads, banners, posters and a conference website.
